Jewels in the Merrimack:Understanding Gender, Youth, Rituals, & Stories in Asian American Buddhism

  • Tang Institute 180 Main Street Andover, MA, 01810 United States (map)

As ethnic and religious minorities in the United States, Asian American Buddhists have historically been overshadowed by popular images of white-convert Buddhism. By grounding our research in local communities in the Merrimack Valley, we hope to spotlight the rich diversity and dynamic practices that thrive within Asian American Buddhism.

Join us as we explore a range of themes:

women and their contributions in and outside of the temple

lessons from youth groups and intergenerational connections

how food, rituals, and Jataka stories inform Buddhist ethics
